Left Home Day 4

Monday was just like Friday except we got up slower and no one made Breakfast… we had to fend for ourselves. :(

Sara's Note

Around 9:00 Sara came out with a notice that by lunch the kids had to memorize 3 verses. Several of the kids thought they could go without lunch and some knew they couldn’t and were in tears.

Zac memorizing

After Suzy and Zac finished school we asked Winnie how much more she had left. She said that she was finished. It finally came out that she had done ONE page because her Mom had said “she could do as much as she wanted” and that’s all she wanted to do. We sent her back to do a little more school.
At one point during the day we found Zac in a bush spearing slugs… we are sooooo thankful for boys… At another point my Mom said that someone should go out and see where or what Zac was doing. I went out and I found him lifting the metal lid to the septic tank. I asked Winnie if Zac was like this all the time. She said yes, but Taylor usually keeps an eye on him.

Ashlyn resorted to having Zac help her bake Brownies.

Ashlyn made a really wonderful supper…with my help. She (we) made sweet and sour chicken, vegetables, rice, and these cheese things that taste just like “cheese its” (in our opinion). It was a lot of fun cooking with Ashlyn. Everyone has a different way they cook. Ashlyn cooks for looks while I cook to get it done. So it was quite a challenge to make the cheese things look nice but cooked in time to eat. For example: When I make those cheese things I usually roll them out and cut. But when Ashlyn makes them she rolls them out, trims the edges, then cuts them out. So that’s what I did.

After supper Mom delegated the dishes to Wesley and Zac… Next morning the dishes were still not done…

The kids had fun playing Pit. I stayed out of it (do you have any idea how wild that game can get?).

It looks like our rainy season has begun. Last night it rained and tonight it poured. We are all very grateful because the rain cools everything off.

Before going to bed Winnie and I were brushing our teeth and she asked if in America they used bottled water to brush their teeth. Note: In Kenya because of the uncertainty that they will actually treat the water we usually use bottled water just in case the water wasn’t treated. I told her no they even drink from tap water. She was really surprised! (I think it is about time for a furlough for those kids.)

Left Home Day 3

Left Home Sunday

I woke up to Sara asking, "Do you want milk and sugar in your coffee?"...what better way to wake up then with coffee in bed? (with a -tiny- bit of milk.:-)
At 9:15, after eating breakfast, getting together bible study lessons and what not, and hurrying the little kids a long with their preparations...we were in the car(s) on our way to church.
Once at church, we started getting everything ready for the service while outside the Salvation Army band was serenading us with (extremely loud) music.  (They, every once in awhile, will have their band right outside the church building on Sunday mornings.)

The wonderfully, awesome parents of seven...for this week.
They still look great!!

The Sunday school classes went well and we had a good morning service. After the morning service, we (Emily, Sara, and I) have been doing Bible studies, with three young ladies. I've enjoyed learning along as I teach the Bible study. Then we ran across the street, to get lunch, which was masala chips and steak pieces. It was soooo much we had it for supper as well. I think I ate about a quarter of my meal.

a couple awesome song leaders. This was Zach's first time to lead.

Waiting for the rain clouds to come in.

After the evening service, we came home pretty tired, so we decided to sit on the porch swing and watch the rain clouds come in. Oh, and I got the delightful pleasure of watching a rat run across the compound wall. Cute as long as he stays over there, far over there!;-)

We also got to watch Zach and Wesley have a wrestling match. Zach was attempting to pin Wesley down, but even though he had high hopes of doing so, he never did succeed.;-) Does that surprise you any?

Don't tell mom this is how they occupied themselves;-)

a Zach attack!...guess who won;-)
Ending our awesome Sunday with a game of Monopoly, which was supposed to go to 8: 30 p.m., but ended up going quite a bit later. Yep, you're about right; we finished around 10: 30.;-) I did enjoy the game...even though I didn't win. I won the night before so that kept me going.;-)

So there is a quick review of our 3rd day left at home; see mom and dad we are holding up fine...in fact we are doing really well, not that we don't want you back or anything.;-)

Left Home Day 2

Saturday; the first thing we did was to wake up! -I had to put in a duh statement in somewhere- I made breakfast. It was French toast! I think I did a pretty good job. :o) After breakfast we did a really fun craft! We took plain cups and drew a design on it with our sharpies, and then put them in the oven to fire them. Now we have our own cups to use!
Suzy doing her cup

Emily's cup

Winnie doing her cup

Me with my cup!! Wow! (JK)

While we were doing that the boys were making more things out of cardboardlike weapon-dry (knives and guns)!

The boys

All the cups done!

We then quickly got lunch and headed out for visitation at 12:00pm. We girls, Emily, Ashlyn, and I, had a Bible study with a young lady who has just started coming to church. But Oh!  does she ask a lot of hard questions to answer! I would defiantly appreciate it if you would pray for us girls and our Bible study with Nelima! We cleaned the Sunday school room and then headed home around 3:00pm!
When we got home Wesley, Zac, Winnie and Ashlyn started a game of Monopoly, Emily and my mom made homemade corndogs, and I took pictures of everyone.

Making corndogs, Yummy!

Zac and his cardboard-creation gun

. Around 6:30- 7:00pm the power went out. So of course we had to use candles to keep the game going. That was nerve-racking with Zac around! At 9:15pm we had to end the game, so we counted up the money. Ashlyn had the most and was our grand Winner, Yeah!

playing by candlelight

a candle...duh
Suzy had mosquito bites, so we tried a new thing to get rid of the itch. We boiled some water and put a metal spoon in it and when it was hot enough we put it on the mosquito bit. We were having fun "torturing each other"!  Hehe

The End  I hope you enjoyed this.

Left Home Day 1

Thursday night the Rains dropped Zac, Winnie, Suzy, and Ashlyn off. They were leaving early the next morning for Ireland. Friday morning we all got up at a normal time and Ashlyn made breakfast... She made Coffee Cake.

After Breakfast we started working on school. Mom decided to make the mornings our studious time and the afternoons the creative time. We all worked on school and slowly by slowly and one by one someone would finish and be given a book to read until lunch.

Slowly by Slowly...
After lunch we all became very creative. First Winnie and Suzy helped me make Banana Bread. After we finished Suzy started crocheting and Winnie made some book marks. I think Zac was making something out of cardboard with Wesley.

Latter in the afternoon Some of the kids started playing the board game "Life". For supper a lady made us a very Kenyan meal...Pilau. It was really good! Our first day of being left home went well. To summarize, all I can say is that there was a lot more activity going on around our house than usual.

Memorizing Psalms 119:1-24

A few months ago Mrs. Rains challenged us to memorize Psalms 119:1-24, and when we were done she would take us out to Cold Stone ice cream shop!! So yeah, we did it and this is our outing!! I now can't wait to start memorizing the next 24 verses. She is taking us to a Pizza shop! :o)
Driving down!!

Our ice cream! My ice cream is coffee lovers flavor, and Ashlyn's is berry berry berry good.
Don't you love the names?

Yum, all those frozen berries!

Winnie's Chocolate devotion!

The boys...I'm not quite sure what they got.
